AEOLUS EPES LAB - ARMORPOW Evolved Operational Laboratory for Universal Scenarios

We are working to open ARMORPOW Evolved Operational Laboratory for Universal Scenarios (AEOLUS).

 

AEOLUS is a physical laboratory situated in a flexible environment composed of several assets such as equipment (EPES process-related, as well as computing capabilities), processes and/or models, allowing to develop scenarios ranging from isolated EPES processes to end-to-end environments, to test and validate solutions in a controlled, high-fidelity environment. Some of the benefits are:

  • Safeguard end-user infrastructure integrity, by avoiding the deployment of components in a production environment (and risking associated liabilities), providing a safe environment for pen testing and security analysis procedures. As such, these procedures could be safely developed and evaluated in a controlled environment, using real equipment, potentially providing invaluable data to the security community;
  • Avoid loss of time and effort in dealing with security clearances, authorization procedures and other unforeseen aspects;
  • Allow for the creation of custom scenarios accordingly with the data inputs and specifications of the end-users, replicating processes and procedures used in production environments within hybrid topologies, composed of real equipment and processes, together with emulated/simulated parts, along the lines of an evolved digital twin;
  • Develop effective and rigorous testing methodologies for defence against attacks on EPES equipment, networks and systems, to measure the cyber resilience of the EPES. This may be used to validate the cyber and cyber-physical resilience of the EPES with different types of attacks/ severity.
  • Develop experiments to obtain a deeper understanding of different types of attacks, new techniques and defence technologies through the evaluation of different test scenarios and use/abuse cases.
